Kobe YMCA Bell-choir

Kobe YMCA Bell-choir was founded in 1980 under the direction of Nozomu Abe, its inspiring Music Director, with the aim of introducing Japanese audiences to handbell music. Kobe YMCA Bell-choir is composed of 15 ringers and 6 octaves of handbells, and their major activities include an annual Christmas concert and participation in an annual Kansai handbell festival and biennale international handbell symposia world-wide (the above photograph is of the 14th symposium in Osaka, 2010, when it was honoured to perform at the opening ceremony). Kobe YMCA Bell-choir has provided approximately 200 concerts for a worldwide audience of more than 50 cities and has touched the lives of music lovers across the world through recordings. They have done 4 CDs and 1 DVD so far.

In 2010, Kobe YMCA Bell-choir celebrated its 30th anniversary. Several congratulatory greetings were given by director's old friends from all over the world for this year's Christmas concert.
